I Can Hear Music

When I bust my left foot way back in March, I found myself sat in my eyrie fiddling with my instruments (oooh matron). I started arsing around with a "bagpipe" type of melody I concocted whist walking around in the Scottish rain a few years back.

I called it "In Scottish Rain" because I'm literal like that and here it is for your delectation.

In Scottish Rain.

Recorded via a Yamaha MD4S Minidisk Recorder (used as a mixer) direct to N-Track on my laptop. Sonic Foundry's Acid Music was used to add drums and to facilitate some of the key changes. Finally Soundforge was used for the final mix.

I tried to be a bit Mike Oldfieldy with this. That's why there's harmonised bagpipe-type guitars. Personally I think it needs a bit of bass boost or - a proper bassline adding. I tried to rely on the synth samples to provide the bottom end but, on reflection perhaps more oomph is needed.

All opinions, good, bad or indifferent welcome.

Pretty impressive sir. And not a single "yo" too.

Sounds pretty good to me Steve. A bit Knoflerish! I'm agog with admiration for anybody that can play any musical instument, meself. I was thrown out of the school music lessons aged 7 for playing the triangle out of time!

Vangelis does a crimbo tune !

it needs words and the drums in the middle are a bit Keith Moon, but it's ace none the less.

I'm impressed.

Love the melody - very "Oldfield". Incidentally, has anyone EVER had a holiday in Scotland when it didn't rain?

Any chance you can repeat that in English, old chap?

Seriously, I clicked the link (repeatedly) but it only gave me about two seconds worth! Nice couple of seconds though.

Sorry old chap, I had bittorent doing something not quite right which slows down my pc, now I have given your tune time to load, I have heard it. Love the guitar, could live without the added fripperies.

We called in at Gretna outlet village yesterday as a detour from our trip to carlisle. It was pissing down and misty, and generally miserable. As we crossed the border I found myself humming your tune.

I seem to remember Paul McCartney saying something about a milkman whistling Yesterday and he knew then that he was famous.........

No appropriate spot for this, but what an excellent City result. I hope you were there.
