When Two World's Drift Apart

Hmmmmm...........I've just spent an hour or two perusing Peter Cuthbertson's "Conservative Commentary". I know I don't agree with his political outlook (especially from one so inexperienced in the art of getting off his arse and trying to earn a living), but what I have to comment on is the bile and nastiness that runs through all those on opposing sides of the debate. This isn't constructive comment - although it attempts to dress itself as such. This isn't rational argument - for that presupposes the possibilty of changing someone's point of view via the open-minded exchange of different ideas. Mr Cuthbertson generally links to some contentious issue of the day, refers to it and uses the sort of language that you can't use in Parliament (where he obviously hopes to end up), to finish off his invective.

At that point a sorry crowd of commenters (from both left and right) begin their, ultimately pointless, replies. Each one becoming more and more personal and polarised.

If Peter Cuthbertson's ambitions do amount to a "career politician", then I suspect baggage such as Conservative Commentary will keep him out of Parliament for many years to come. He may appeal to the Blue Rinses and the rest, but a Tory Cabinet would do all it could to keep him, his mouth and his opinions out of the limelight.

Some enterprising Journalist would soon start digging around "Conservative Commentary" though.

Wonder if he ever thinks of anything else but politics ? Sex perhaps ? Every six seconds and all that. Probably either a spreadegled Iron Lady or a pouting Portillo would hit the mark.
