Mr Blue Sky
Another lovely day in Manchester today, although it did become overcast a little later on. Think we'll probably stay in tonight and watch a DVD with a nice chilled white wine. I think that sounds better than sitting in a noisy pub covered in cigarette smoke.
Great today - the Premiership's back ! I can't wait until next Saturday when the first league game at The City of Manchester Stadium will be played against Portsmouth. It will also be the first time the stadium will be absolutely full. 48,000 in there and the atmosphere will be electric. I went the other evning and seeing the stadium at night, all lit up with 1,000s of fans in it was fantastic. To top a really good day its just been announced that Trevor Sinclair has been included in Sven's England squad for the friendly at Portman Rd next week.
So "Big Daddy" has finally shuffled off into eternity. It's amazing how this man was allowed to get away with huge human rights abuses and spend the rest of his days in luxury in that bastion of democracy, Saudi Arabia.
Torture, murder, cannibalism and the mass expulsion of all Asians living in his country, and he got away with it all. One of the reasons I think he managed it was that he gave everyone the impression that he was a buffoon He wasn't of course. He was an incredibly intelligent man who outmanouvred his enemies for a long time.
It now turns out that David Owen (at the time Foreign secretary in Harold Wilson's Government) was considering having Amin assassinated. Well I'm glad they didn't. Obnoxious as the man was - murdering him was not the answer then anymore than it is now.
