Livin' Doll

This beggars belief. There's not much more to add really is there ? I love Mark Morford's description of Dubya though - it's spot on !

Mark Morford, a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, last week wrote: "There he is, all faux manly and squinty and artificially buffed up, his gull-wing ears toned down and the thin-lipped brow-furrowed monkey confusion so common to his scrunched little face apparently erased."

Remember that this doll represents the Draft-dodger of the Vietnamese War on the day he "flew" onto the USS Abraham Lincoln to declare the War in Iraq over. I guess there's quite a few subsequently widowed servicemen's wives who won't be rushing out to buy one.

A timely reminder from one of America's greatest playrights on the paranoid nature of USA political and social life at the moment. Perhaps he should present George with a copy of The Crucible - he may recognise the present in this tale of the past.

Well another two weeks and then Dearest and I are off on a week's cruise round the Med again. Against all our expectations we had such a laugh on the last one that we've just *got* to try it again.

After that, Dearest is having some major surgery that will keep her out of action for months. The thoughts of it are weighing heavy on my heart. In truth I'm frightened to death: we've never had to confront anything like this before.
