Come Dancing
“Ooooohhh hiya love. Come and sit here. How’ve yer bin ? Eeeehh we’ve not seen yer fer weeks!”.
It was Margaret. Sat in the pub with Fred her second husband. A man of very few words but – when he does hold forth he gets truly animated. I reckon talking must knacker him that much he “spends each sentence like marked currency”.
Personally they drive me mad but they’ve tagged on to us. Consequently anytime we bump into them they treat us like long lost children. Margaret is around 60, Fred a little younger I think.
Last night they were talking about keeping active as you get older. Fred lit up. He was full of enthusiasm about learning to skip the light fantastic. Arms waving and eyes darting back and forth from Dearest to myself. He tripped over his words in his excitement. Apparently they’ve been having lessons.
“Yes we’ve started going to sequin dancing” said Margaret.
Bless.
Robert Palmer dead at 54. I never felt he achieved the potential that was there. He became a little too polished for me. Such a fabulous voice – silky smooth soul one minute and rasping rock the next. Sadly the Eighties got him and he became a victim of overblown production values. Sad really as he was one of the first to get involved in world music, frequently blending it into his own stuff.
If you lived in the Manchester area in the late 60s/early 70s, you would remember him performing with the (then) very raunchy Elkie Brooks (aka Elaine Bookbinder) in Vinegar Joe. Actually Ms Brooks may still be raunchy: who knows?
Dearest has just informed me that the car won’t start !!
Update
Well 4 gallons of WD40 later and the bloody thing still won't start. This delightful P reg Ren ault Megane is beginning to test my patience to the point where I may have to consider having it put down.
If we phone the RAC again they'll start sending us letters threatening us with call out charges on account of the number of times we've used their services. Nonetheless it's looking like the RAC will be called. Before we resort to that though we've decided to leave it a few hours in case we've flooded it constantly trying to start it. Here's hoping.
Well my Psion Revo arrived and I must say I'm well impressed. In fact I'm typing this into it right now using the Word application that bundles with it. So much better having a *proper* keyboard to input text with rather than arsing about with the Palm Pilot's Graffiti method.
Setting up was a doddle as well. 5 minutes and I'd downloaded my email to it from my PC. To do lists the same, along with calender functions and the rest. Should be able to sync it with my PC at work as well. Will this ,make me more productive ? I doubt it - but we can but try ;-)
Brother-in-law is going away for 10 days tomorrow. It's his first holiday in 8 years. Its to celebrate his divorce and settlement which has finally happened after around 5 years messing. He's letting me use his car for the duration. When he gets back Dearest will be in hospital so I will have our car then (assuming its not dead). Dearest will be out of action for around 3 months after her op. The question is: do I put the bike away for the winter or will I actually use it during the odd sunny day we inevitably get?
Actually putting the bike away for the winter will necessitate clearing out the shed so I might just keep it handy for the time being.
Further update
The car may have just signed its own death warrant.
